Fresh engine oil being poured during an oil change

Signs You Need Oil Change

Most cars give warning before an oil change becomes urgent. The signs below are the ones that matter, and the useful skill is telling them apart from the faults that look identical from the driver's seat.

An oil change is the cheapest thing you will ever do for an engine and the easiest one to get wrong. The two things that matter are the grade the manufacturer specified and whether the filter is a real one. We bring both to you, show you the container before it goes in, and take the old oil away for recycling.

What the car is telling you

Symptoms are evidence, not diagnoses. A noise, a warning light or a change in how the car behaves narrows the field — it does not close it — and the gap between the two is where money gets wasted on parts that were fine. We test before replacing, every time, because the alternative is you paying to find out.

Dubai heat shortens the interval, not the oil

Modern synthetic oil is chemically capable of the interval printed in the handbook. What shortens it here is the combination of sustained high ambient temperature, idling in traffic with the AC on full, and fine airborne dust reaching the sump past a filter that is overdue. Fifteen to twenty percent earlier than the book figure is a sensible allowance.

Grade is not a suggestion

A 0W-20 engine filled with 5W-30 will run, and its variable valve timing will run slightly wrong, and its fuel economy will drop, and the wear that follows will not be visible for two years. Grade is stamped on the oil cap for a reason and we match it.

When it stops being something to monitor

If the symptom changes under load, gets worse with heat, or brings a warning light with it, it has moved from "watch it" to "book it". In Dubai the heat variable is not a footnote — a fault that is intermittent in February is continuous in July, and the failure usually happens on the hottest afternoon rather than the coolest.

What we check to confirm it

  • Fully synthetic oil in the exact grade your engine calls for
  • Genuine or OE-equivalent oil filter, plus a new sump washer
  • Fluid level check across coolant, brake, power steering and washer
  • Old oil and filter removed for licensed recycling

Questions we get asked

When should I change my engine oil in Dubai?

For most cars on fully synthetic oil, every 8,000 to 10,000 km or every six months, whichever comes first — earlier than the handbook figure because of the heat and the dust.

Can you change my oil at my apartment building?

Yes. The van carries the oil, the filter, a drain pan and a sealed container for the waste. Most oil changes take about 30 minutes in your own parking space.

Do I need fully synthetic oil?

If the manufacturer specified it, yes. Even where semi-synthetic is permitted, fully synthetic holds up better against Dubai's ambient temperatures and is worth the small difference in price.

Recognise any of these?

Call, or send your location on WhatsApp. We will tell you the price before we set off.
