Most Bentley Continental GT calls we take start the same way: it turned over slowly for a few days, then one morning it just clicked.
Large AGM units with coding required, and a parked current draw high enough that a month unused will flatten a healthy battery. On the Continental GT specifically, which the vehicle database lists across model years 2003 to 2026, the safe approach is to read the label on the battery that is in the car now and match its group size, terminal side and capacity — or to give us the year and let us look it up.
One loud click with bright dashboard lights is the starter. Rapid clicking with dimming lights is the battery or a corroded terminal. Starting fine and then dying while driving is the alternator. We test all three at the roadside before fitting anything, because replacing a healthy battery on a Bentley Continental GT with a failing alternator leaves you exactly where you started, two days later.
Model years from roughly 2014 onward are likely to have a start-stop system, and a start-stop car cycles its battery hundreds of times more often than a conventional one. A standard flooded battery in that duty typically fails within a year. AGM or EFB is not an upsell here — it is the specification.
These cars reward being driven; the majority of the faults we see on low-mileage examples are consequences of standing, not of use. For the battery specifically: park in shade where you can, drive far enough to actually recharge rather than only starting the car, and have it load-tested before summer rather than after. A battery that reads 12.4 volts at rest can still fail its load test, and the load test is the one that predicts the morning it does not start.
