Most Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4 calls we take start the same way: it turned over slowly for a few days, then one morning it just clicked.
Model years from roughly 2014 onward are likely to have a start-stop system, and a start-stop car cycles its battery hundreds of times more often than a conventional one. A standard flooded battery in that duty typically fails within a year. AGM or EFB is not an upsell here — it is the specification.
Air suspension compressors and their dryers work harder in heat, and a slow-rising car overnight is usually the strut or the valve block rather than the compressor. For the battery specifically: park in shade where you can, drive far enough to actually recharge rather than only starting the car, and have it load-tested before summer rather than after. A battery that reads 12.4 volts at rest can still fail its load test, and the load test is the one that predicts the morning it does not start.
The AMG GT 4 is a coupe, and the tighter engine bay means battery height and terminal orientation matter as much as capacity. That is not a detail — battery choice is driven as much by physical size, hold-down type and parked current draw as it is by cranking amps, and getting one of the three wrong is how a correctly-specified battery ends up failing early.
Most modern Mercedes run a main AGM battery plus a smaller auxiliary battery, and the new one must be coded to the car — skip that and the intelligent charging system will not charge it correctly. On the AMG GT 4 specifically, which the vehicle database lists across model years 2018 to 2026, the safe approach is to read the label on the battery that is in the car now and match its group size, terminal side and capacity — or to give us the year and let us look it up.
