If your Porsche 924 needed a jump start this week, the useful question is not which battery to buy. It is whether the battery is the fault at all.
With a range ending in 1988, this is very likely a conventional car with no start-stop system, which means a good standard battery in the correct group size does the job. AGM would last longer but you would be paying for cycle life the car never uses.
Coolant hoses and the water pump are the heat items; on air-cooled and early water-cooled cars the oil cooler lines are worth inspecting every service. For the battery specifically: park in shade where you can, drive far enough to actually recharge rather than only starting the car, and have it load-tested before summer rather than after. A battery that reads 12.4 volts at rest can still fail its load test, and the load test is the one that predicts the morning it does not start.
The 924 is an SUV, so it carries a physically larger battery than a saloon of the same age and a heavier parked electrical load. That is not a detail — battery choice is driven as much by physical size, hold-down type and parked current draw as it is by cranking amps, and getting one of the three wrong is how a correctly-specified battery ends up failing early.
AGM as standard, and cars that sit between weekend drives benefit from a maintainer — a Porsche that is used twice a month is a Porsche with a chronically undercharged battery. On the 924 specifically, which the vehicle database lists across model years 1976 to 1988, the safe approach is to read the label on the battery that is in the car now and match its group size, terminal side and capacity — or to give us the year and let us look it up.
