Most Subaru BRZ calls we take start the same way: it turned over slowly for a few days, then one morning it just clicked.
This is very likely a conventional car with no start-stop system, which means a good standard battery in the correct group size does the job. AGM would last longer but you would be paying for cycle life the car never uses.
Head gasket and oil consumption history is worth checking on any used Subaru here, because heat is exactly the condition that surfaces it. For the battery specifically: park in shade where you can, drive far enough to actually recharge rather than only starting the car, and have it load-tested before summer rather than after. A battery that reads 12.4 volts at rest can still fail its load test, and the load test is the one that predicts the morning it does not start.
The BRZ is a coupe, and the tighter engine bay means battery height and terminal orientation matter as much as capacity. That is not a detail — battery choice is driven as much by physical size, hold-down type and parked current draw as it is by cranking amps, and getting one of the three wrong is how a correctly-specified battery ends up failing early.
The boxer layout leaves a shallow battery tray, so height matters as much as capacity when choosing a replacement. On the BRZ specifically, which the vehicle database lists across model years 2012 to 2026, the safe approach is to read the label on the battery that is in the car now and match its group size, terminal side and capacity — or to give us the year and let us look it up.
