Working on a car outdoors here for eight months of the year is a genuine safety issue, not an inconvenience. Surface temperatures in an uncovered car park exceed what bare hands tolerate, tools left in the sun burn, and heat exhaustion arrives faster than most people expect. A job that is an easy hour in a European garage is not the same job in a Discovery Gardens car park in July.
The system runs at maximum load for eight months of the year with condenser inlet air already at 45 degrees. Compressors here do a service lifetime of work in half the calendar time, and a system that is chronically low on gas is also low on the oil that gas carries, which is what actually seizes them.
This job is priced after inspection because the fault has to be found before it can be quoted. Attempting it blind means replacing parts in sequence until the symptom goes, and that is almost always the dearest route to a fix.
