In Dubai a broken air conditioner is not a comfort problem, it is a reason not to drive the car. Most no-cooling complaints come down to one of four things — refrigerant loss through a leak, a failed compressor clutch, a blocked condenser or a cabin filter nobody has changed — and telling them apart takes pressure readings on both sides of the system, not a top-up.
A sealed AC system does not consume refrigerant. If it is low, it is leaking, and refilling it without finding the leak buys you weeks. We pressure test first and quote the leak, because the alternative is you paying for gas twice.
That specific pattern is almost always airflow across the condenser — a failed cooling fan, or a condenser packed solid with the fine sand that gets everywhere here. It is a cheap fix and it is very often quoted as a compressor.
Dubai compresses every wear cycle a car has. Ambient heat, fine airborne sand and the stop-start driving that most local mileage is made of mean components reach a given wear state at a lower odometer reading than the manufacturer's schedule assumes. Service intervals written for temperate climates are optimistic here, and this job is one of the places that shows.
You should be shown the old part, told what the test read before and after, and given the price you were quoted rather than a revised one. Those three are cheap for an honest workshop to provide and awkward for a dishonest one, which is exactly why they are worth asking for.
