Most Cadillac ELR calls we take start the same way: it turned over slowly for a few days, then one morning it just clicked.
The ELR is a coupe, and the tighter engine bay means battery height and terminal orientation matter as much as capacity. That is not a detail — battery choice is driven as much by physical size, hold-down type and parked current draw as it is by cranking amps, and getting one of the three wrong is how a correctly-specified battery ends up failing early.
An Escalade battery sits under the second-row seat on several generations, which is why a quoted price that assumes a bonnet fit is usually wrong. On the ELR specifically, which the vehicle database lists across model years 2014 to 2016, the safe approach is to read the label on the battery that is in the car now and match its group size, terminal side and capacity — or to give us the year and let us look it up.
One loud click with bright dashboard lights is the starter. Rapid clicking with dimming lights is the battery or a corroded terminal. Starting fine and then dying while driving is the alternator. We test all three at the roadside before fitting anything, because replacing a healthy battery on a Cadillac ELR with a failing alternator leaves you exactly where you started, two days later.
Model years from roughly 2014 onward are likely to have a start-stop system, and a start-stop car cycles its battery hundreds of times more often than a conventional one. A standard flooded battery in that duty typically fails within a year. AGM or EFB is not an upsell here — it is the specification.
