Most Hyundai Galloper calls we take start the same way: it turned over slowly for a few days, then one morning it just clicked.
The Galloper is an SUV, so it carries a physically larger battery than a saloon of the same age and a heavier parked electrical load. That is not a detail — battery choice is driven as much by physical size, hold-down type and parked current draw as it is by cranking amps, and getting one of the three wrong is how a correctly-specified battery ends up failing early.
Recent models use a battery sensor on the negative terminal, and a replacement has to be registered to the car or the charging system undercharges the new battery. On the Galloper specifically, which the vehicle database lists across model years 1991 to 2003, the safe approach is to read the label on the battery that is in the car now and match its group size, terminal side and capacity — or to give us the year and let us look it up.
One loud click with bright dashboard lights is the starter. Rapid clicking with dimming lights is the battery or a corroded terminal. Starting fine and then dying while driving is the alternator. We test all three at the roadside before fitting anything, because replacing a healthy battery on a Hyundai Galloper with a failing alternator leaves you exactly where you started, two days later.
With a range ending in 2003, this is very likely a conventional car with no start-stop system, which means a good standard battery in the correct group size does the job. AGM would last longer but you would be paying for cycle life the car never uses.
