One loud click with bright dashboard lights is the starter. Rapid clicking with dimming lights is the battery or a corroded terminal. Starting fine and then dying while driving is the alternator. We test all three at the roadside before fitting anything, because replacing a healthy battery on a MG 8 with a failing alternator leaves you exactly where you started, two days later.
Model years from roughly 2014 onward are likely to have a start-stop system, and a start-stop car cycles its battery hundreds of times more often than a conventional one. A standard flooded battery in that duty typically fails within a year. AGM or EFB is not an upsell here — it is the specification.
Warranty servicing schedules are short and worth keeping to, because they are also what keeps the warranty intact. For the battery specifically: park in shade where you can, drive far enough to actually recharge rather than only starting the car, and have it load-tested before summer rather than after. A battery that reads 12.4 volts at rest can still fail its load test, and the load test is the one that predicts the morning it does not start.
The 8 is an SUV, so it carries a physically larger battery than a saloon of the same age and a heavier parked electrical load. That is not a detail — battery choice is driven as much by physical size, hold-down type and parked current draw as it is by cranking amps, and getting one of the three wrong is how a correctly-specified battery ends up failing early.
