A Peugeot 604 battery in Dubai is a two-to-three year part, not a five-year one, and knowing that is the difference between replacing it on a Tuesday afternoon and replacing it in a car park at midnight.
Cooling system plastics and the thermostat housing are the heat items on the 1.2 and 1.6 turbo engines. For the battery specifically: park in shade where you can, drive far enough to actually recharge rather than only starting the car, and have it load-tested before summer rather than after. A battery that reads 12.4 volts at rest can still fail its load test, and the load test is the one that predicts the morning it does not start.
The 604 is a saloon, which usually means a mid-size battery in an accessible bonnet position. That is not a detail — battery choice is driven as much by physical size, hold-down type and parked current draw as it is by cranking amps, and getting one of the three wrong is how a correctly-specified battery ends up failing early.
PSA cars with e-HDi or start-stop need EFB or AGM and a battery reset; a standard battery disables the system. On the 604 specifically, which the vehicle database lists across model years 1977 to 1987, the safe approach is to read the label on the battery that is in the car now and match its group size, terminal side and capacity — or to give us the year and let us look it up.
One loud click with bright dashboard lights is the starter. Rapid clicking with dimming lights is the battery or a corroded terminal. Starting fine and then dying while driving is the alternator. We test all three at the roadside before fitting anything, because replacing a healthy battery on a Peugeot 604 with a failing alternator leaves you exactly where you started, two days later.
